As the lucky country, you might be surprised to learn just how prevalent food insecurity is across Australia. In fact, every year it is estimated that 3.6 million Australians will seek food relief from an organisation like ours here at Food For Change.

These are alarming numbers that any individual can help us address. Just $2 can help produce
10 nutritious meals, but when it comes to making a difference… money isn’t all that matters.

You see, as well as the financial cost of feeding those in need, it takes time and effort from an army of volunteers to keep Food For Changing up and running. We are rooted in the generosity of our volunteers, and we’re always on the lookout for more. The roles are many and varied so no matter your skill set, location or areas of interest – Food For Change can find a volunteer spot for you. Seriously, here’s just three of the different ways to help:

  1. Get your hands dirty: yep, literally! Our two key farms – in Melbourne, and down on the Mornington Peninsula – welcome individuals and groups to help grow produce that can feed the hungry. Even if you’re not an experienced farm hand, from seed sowing to produce picking, there are plenty of ways to roll up your sleeves and get growing… no matter your level of experience. Not in Victoria? Not to worry. We have plenty of volunteer land and farms across the country who grow on our behalf, and we can look to partner you with a convenient location. Simply get in touch with our amazing volunteer team to get started today.
  2.  Virtual admin support: behind every free meal is a mountain of paperwork to be completed. We welcome individuals and office support across all areas of operations to help lessen the load for our Food For Change team. From general admin, letter writing and website updates through to accounting support or promotion of our services – the options are endless, and so is the work. Why not chat with our volunteer team to see how your experience and unique skill set can be put to good work with Food For Change.
  3. Volunteer your workplace team: afterall, many hands make light work! We also have volunteer opportunities for corporate groups across both our Melbourne Farm and Mornington Peninsula farm. Not only does a corporate volunteer day help us tackle the workload in great time, but it also serves as a great team bonding experience. Can’t wait to see Karen from Accounting roll up her sleeves and help with the harvest, or Dave from Produce Development loading up a Food For Change delivery truck? Neither can we! We look forward to welcoming you with open arms to the established family of Food For Change volunteers, who make the good work we do possible.
